MySQL ASCII() Functions: Description
ASCII() function return the numeric value of left-most character.
ASCII() works for 8-bit characters.

Name, Required /Optional, Value Type, Description
string , Required, String , If more than one character is entered. It will only return the value for the first character.

Returns,
0,if string is the empty string.
